Alesse

Uses
Alesse (Ethinyl Estradiol and Levonorgestrel) contains a combination of hormones, estrogen and progesterone, which are female hormones involved in conception. Alesse prevents ovulation. Alesse also causes the cervical mucous to thicken, which makes it harder for sperm to move toward the uterus, and prevents the attachment of the egg to the uterus, thus preventing pregnancy. Alesse may also be used for purposes other than preventing pregnancy.

How to use
Take Alesse exactly as directed by your doctor. If you do not understand these directions, ask your pharmacist, nurse, or doctor to explain them to you. Take the first pill in the package on the first Sunday after your period begins (unless otherwise directed by your doctor). Take one pill every day, within 24 hours period since your last dose. Try to take the pills at a time that you will remember every day--for example just before bed, with a meal, or first thing in the morning, etc. Taking your pill at night may help to reduce any nausea or headache that you may experience due to the hormones. If you are on a 28-day cycle, take one pill every day. When the pack runs out, throw it away. Begin a new pack the following day.

Precautions
Follow your doctor's instructions about using a second form of birth control when you first start taking Alesse, when you are taking antibiotics, or if you miss a pill. If you are unsure what to do with any of these cases, talk to your pharmacist, nurse, or doctor about how to ensure the prevention of pregnancy.

Side Effects
If you experience any of the following serious side effects, stop taking Alesse and seek emergency medical attention: an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of your throat; swelling of your lips, tongue, or face; or hives); a blood clot in the lung (shortness of breath or pain in the chest); a blood clot in an arm or leg (pain, redness, swelling, or numbness of an arm or leg); high blood pressure (severe headache, flushing, blurred vision); liver damage (yellowing of the skin or eyes, nausea, abdominal pain or discomfort, unusual bleeding or bruising, severe fatigue). Less serious side effects may be more likely to occur. Continue to take Alesse and talk to your doctor if you experience: headache or dizziness; nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea; breakthrough bleeding; or breast tenderness. Rare forms of side effects that could occur include: depression, changes in weight or appetite, vaginal yeast infection, changes in menstrual cycle, oily skin or acne, changes in sex drive, lethargy or fatigue, bloating, changes in skin color, changes in your blood sugar.

LEXAPRO and MAOIs should not be taken together or within 14 days of each other. Before you begin taking LEXAPRO, make sure to tell your healthcare provider if you are taking any other medications, including over-the-counter medications, herbal remedies, diet supplements, etc.

Mircette

Uses
Mircette (desogestrel/ethinyl estradiol and ethinyl estradiol) is a bi-phasic" oral contraceptive pill. Mircette tablets contain the hormones that are delivered in two stages. This combination oral contraceptives act by suppression of gonadotropins, inhibition of ovulation, and changes in the cervical mucus (which increase the difficulty of sperm entry into the uterus) and the endometrium (which reduce the likelihood of implantation).

How to use
To achieve maximum contraceptive effectiveness, Mircette (desogestrel/ethinyl estradiol and ethinyl estradiol) Tablets must be taken exactly as directed and at intervals not exceeding 24 hours. Mircette may be initiated using either a Sunday start or a Day 1 start. If you do not understand these directions, ask your pharmacist, nurse, or doctor to explain them to you.

Oral contraceptives may compound the effects of well-known risk factors, such as hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemias ,and obesity. In particular, some progestogens are known to decrease HDL cholesterol and cause glucose intolerance, while estrogens may create a state of hyperinsulinism. Oral contraceptives have been shown to increase blood pressure among users. Similar effects on risk factors have been associated with an increased risk of heart disease. Oral contraceptives must be used with caution in women with cardiovascular disease risk factors.

Side Effects
An increased risk of the following serious adverse reactions has been associated with the use of oral contraceptives: thrombophlebitis and venous thrombosis, arterial thromboembolism, pulmonary embolism, myocardial infarction, cerebral hemorrhage, cerebral thrombosis, hypertension, gallbladder disease, and hepatic adenomas or benign liver tumors. The following adverse reactions have been reported in patients receiving oral contraceptives and are believed to be drug-related: nausea, vomiting, gastrointestinal symptoms (such as abdominal cramps and bloating), change in menstrual flow, amenorrhea, temporary infertility after discontinuation of treatment, Edema Melasma which may persist, breast changes: tenderness, enlargement, secretion, Change in weight (increase or decrease), change in cervical erosion and secretion, diminution in lactation when given immediately postpartum, cholestatic jaundice, Migraine Rash (allergic), mental depression, reduced tolerance to carbohydrates, vaginal candidiasis, change in corneal curvature (steepening), intolerance to contact lenses, etc. The following adverse reactions have been reported in users of oral contraceptives and the association has been neither confirmed nor refuted: pre-menstrual syndrome, cataracts, changes in appetite, cystitis-like syndrome, headache, nervousness, dizziness, hirsutism, loss of scalp hair, erythema multiforme, erythema nodosum, hemorrhagic eruption, vaginitis, porphyria, impaired renal function, hemolytic uremic syndrome, acne, changes in libido, colitis, Budd-Chiari Syndrome, effects on menses (increased menstrual cycle regularity, decreased blood loss and decreased incidence of iron deficiency anemia, decreased incidence of dysmenorrhea), effects related to inhibition of ovulation (decreased incidence of functional ovarian cysts, decreased incidence of ectopic pregnancies).

Ortho Evra Patch

Uses
Ortho_Evra_Patch is a combination hormone patch used to prevent pregnancy. It contains hormones similar to those in birth control pills. The hormones release from the patch slowly over time. Using Ortho Evra Patch patch does not protect you or your partner against HIV or other sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).

How To Use
Review the Patient Information Leaflet. Follow all instructions on how to use Ortho Evra Patch patch and also the best time (during your menstrual cycle) to start using the patch. If any of the information is unclear, consult your doctor or pharmacist. Open the patch container and apply one patch to an area of clean, dry skin on the buttock, abdomen, upper outer arm, or upper body (torso) exactly as directed by your doctor. The patch is worn for 7 days. Do not apply the patch to the breast(s), the area around the breast(s); to red, cut, or irritated skin; or over other topical products (e.g., make-up, creams, lotions, powders). After 7 days, remove the old patch and apply a new patch. Repeat this weekly cycle for 3 weeks (3 patches equal 1 cycle). After your third patch is removed, you will have one week without using the patch. Your menstrual cycle (period) usually should start during the week when you do not use the patch. If your menstrual cycle (period) does not begin during this week, consult your doctor. After your 4th week, begin a new patch cycle, even if you still are experiencing some bleeding (still having your period). Do not go longer than 7 days without a patch. Doing so may make Ortho Evra Patch less effective. If the medication patch accidentally comes off, is removed, or if it becomes detached, apply a new patch. If it is detached or comes off for longer than 24 hours, or if you are not sure how long the patch has been detached or removed, use additional forms of birth control (e.g., condoms, spermicide) for at least 7 days and continue with the same cycle. After removing each patch, fold the patch in half so it sticks to itself and discard it in a trash container. Do not discard or flush the patches down a toilet. If you weigh more than 198 pounds (90 kg), this patch may not work as well for you. Make sure your doctor knows your current weight and ask about which form of birth control is best for you. If any of this information is unclear, consult the Patient Information Leaflet or your doctor or pharmacist.

Side Effects
Nausea, vomiting, headache, redness or itching at the patch application site, dizziness, breast tenderness, vaginal discomfort/irritation, or stomach cramping/bloating may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor. Promptly tell your doctor if any of these side effects occur: dark patches on the skin (melasma), change in appetite, weight changes (gain or loss), problem wearing contact lenses. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these serious side effects occur: unusual vaginal discharge, changes in vaginal bleeding (e.g., spotting, breakthrough bleeding, prolonged or complete stoppage of bleeding), swelling, severe headache, mental/mood changes. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur: pain in the groin or lower legs, trouble breathing, rash, chest pain, stomach pain, vision or eye problems. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these highly unlikely but very serious side effects occur: yellowing eyes or skin, dark urine, one-sided weakness, numbness in the arms/legs, lumps in the breast. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Precautions

Tell your doctor your medical history, especially of: high cholesterol or triglyceride (fat) levels, depression, high blood pressure, gallbladder problems, thyroid problems, any allergies. Do not smoke cigarettes. Hormonal birth control (e.g., pills, injections, devices) products combined with smoking cigarettes significantly increase your risk for strokes, blood clots, high blood pressure, and heart attacks; especially in women older than 35 years of age. Ask your doctor or pharmacist or consult the patient information leaflet that comes with this product for more details. Before having surgery, including dental surgery, tell the doctor(s) that you are using this product. The drugs in this patch may cause blotchy, dark areas on your skin (melasma) and sunlight may intensify this effect. If this occurs, avoid prolonged sun exposure, use a sunscreen, and wear protective clothing when outdoors. If you are near-sighted or wear contact lenses, you may develop vision problems or may have problems wearing your contact lenses. Contact your eye doctor if these problems occur. Ortho Evra Patch device must not be used in pregnancy. If you become pregnant or think you may be pregnant, inform your doctor immediately. The medication from this patch passes into breast milk and may have undesirable effects on the nursing infant. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

Drug Interactions

Prevacid

Uses
Prevacid is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) used to treat ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux (GERD), erosive esophagitis, or Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Lansoprazole may also be used to treat ulcers due to long-term use of certain pain/anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Prevacid works by blocking acid production in the stomach. It may be used in combination with antibiotics (e.g., amoxicillin, clarithromycin) to treat certain types of ulcers. It may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.

How To Use
Follow the directions for using Prevacid provided by your doctor. TAKE THIS MEDICINE in the morning unless your doctor directs otherwise. TAKE THIS MEDICINE before eating. SWALLOW WHOLE. Do not break, crush, or chew before swallowing. IF YOU HAVE TROUBLE SWALLOWING THE CAPSULE, the capsule may be opened and the contents sprinkled into soft food (e.g., applesauce, cottage cheese, yogurt), or emptied into a small amount (2 oz or 60 ml) of juice and taken as directed. Rinse the container with an additional small amount of juice and drink the contents to make sure the entire dose is taken. DO NOT CHEW the food/medication mixture or prepare a supply in advance. Doing so may destroy the drug and/or increase side effects. Potent acid-reducing medicines such as lansoprazole can decrease the effectiveness of sucralfate, as well as other drugs such as the antifungals ketoconazole and itraconazole. If instructed to take any of these medicines while taking lansoprazole, consult your doctor or pharmacist regarding the proper timing of each dose. For example, if you are instructed to take sucralfate in addition to lansoprazole, it is best to take the lansoprazole at least 30 minutes before your sucralfate. Use Prevacid regularly in order to get the most benefit from it. To help you remember, use it at the same time each day. STORE THIS MEDICINE at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) away from light and moisture. Do not store in the bathroom. CONTINUE TAKING THIS MEDICINE even if you feel better. Do not miss any doses. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF THIS MEDICINE, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.

Seasonale

Uses
Seasonale (ethinyl estradiol and levonorgestrel)is an extended-cycle oral contraceptive that lets you have just 4 periods a year. Seasonale tablets are indicated for the prevention of pregnancy, and used daily as a birth control pill.

How to use
Take Seasonale exactly as directed by your doctor. If you do not understand these directions, ask your pharmacist, nurse, or doctor to explain them to you. Take the first pill in the package on the first Sunday after your period begins (unless otherwise directed by your doctor). The extended-cycle form of Seasonale involves a 91-day treatment cycle resulting in 4 menstrual periods per year (which occurs when you are taking the 7 white pills). Take one pill every day at the same time, no more than 24 hours after the last dose. Try to take the pills at a time that you will remember every day--for example just before bed, with a meal, or first thing in the morning.

Precautions
Under Seasonale's dosing regimen, the number of expected menstrual periods that a woman usually experiences are reduced from once a month to about once every three months. Although Seasonale users have fewer scheduled menstrual cycles, the data from clinical trials show that many women, especially in the first few cycles of use, had more unplanned bleeding and spotting between the expected menstrual periods than women taking a conventional 28-day cycle oral contraceptive. Like other available oral contraceptives, Seasonale is effective for prevention of pregnancy when used as directed. The risks of using Seasonale are similar to the risks of other conventional oral contraceptives and include an increased risk of blood clots, heart attack, and stroke. The labeling also carries the warning that cigarette smoking increases the risk of serious cardiovascular side effects from use of combination estrogen and progestin containing contraceptives. Birth control pills do not protect against HIV infection (AIDS) or other sexually transmitted diseases. Since Seasonale users can expect to have fewer periods, the label also advises women to consider the possibility that they may be pregnant if they miss any scheduled periods. Women should discuss contraceptive use and the precautions and warnings for use of the drug with their doctors.

Side Effects
If you experience the following possible side effects of ethinyl estradiol and levonorgestrel, stop taking Seasonale and seek emergency medical attention or contact your doctor immediately: allergic reaction such as difficulty breathing, closing of the throat, swelling of the lips, tongue, or face, or hives, possible blood clot in the lung as indicated by shortness of breath, coughing up blood, or pain in the chest, the pain, redness, swelling, or numbness of the leg, or partial/complete loss of vision, chest pain or heaviness in the chest that could signal possible heart attack, severe headache or vomiting, dizziness or fainting, speech disturbances, weakness or numbness in an arm or leg that may indicate stroke, breast lumps, possible liver problems as indicated by yellowing of the skin or eyes, nausea, abdominal pain or discomfort, unusual bleeding or bruising, severe fatigue. In case you experience less serious side effects, continue to take Seasonale and talk to your doctor: breakthrough bleeding or spotting, headache, nausea or vomiting, breast tenderness, depression, changes in weight or appetite, changes in skin color; or changes in fit of contact lenses. Side effects other than those listed above may occur. Consult your doctor about any side effect that is unusual and uncomfortable.

Storage
Store Seasonale at room temperature away from moisture and heat.

TamiFlu

Uses
Tamiflu (oseltamivir phosphate) is a medication used to treat some types of influenza and illness caused by the flu viruses (influenza). Oseltamivir is also used to prevent the flu for those who are exposed, such as the family members of the patient, thus helping to reduce the chance of getting the flu when there is a flu outbreak in the community.

How to use
Take Tamiflu orally as directed by your doctor. You may take this medication with food or milk to minimize stomach upset. Take it as soon as flu symptoms appear or as soon as possible after you have been exposed, possibly within 48 hours. If you came down with the flu, take Tamiflu twice a day for 5 days: once in the morning and once in the evening, completing the entire 10 doses. To prevent the flu, take Tamiflu once a day for at least 7 days or take it exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Tamiflu works best if this medicine is kept at a constant level in your body. Therefore, try to take Tamiflu at a fixed time each day. Stopping the medication too early may result in a relapse of the infection. Inform your doctor if your condition worsens or if new symptoms appear.

Precautions
Tamiflu has not been shown to treat flu-like illnesses caused by any virus other than influenza A and B. Thus, it will not treat stomach flu, common cold, or other respiratory illnesses, which are not caused by influenza viruses. There are many types of viruses that cause symptoms that are not easy to distinguish from flu. Contact your health care provider if you feel worse or develop new symptoms during or after treatment, or if your influenza symptoms do not improve after taking Tamiflu. Tamiflu should not be administered to the patients under the age 1.

Side Effects
If nausea occurs, persists, or worsens, tell your doctor as soon as possible. Notify your doctor immediately if you have any of these rare but serious side effects: dizziness, vomiting, persistent cough, persistent weakness, fever, or sore throat.

Storage
Store Tamiflu at room temperature away from light, moisture, and heat.

Tell your doctor your medical history, especially of: kidney disease, liver disease, seizure disorder, lung disease, history of drug or alcohol dependency, any allergies you may have. Limit alcohol as it may add to the dizziness or drowsiness effects caused by the medication. Because Tramadol may make you dizzy/drowsy, use caution performing tasks requiring alertness such as driving. Tramadol should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. Tramadol is excreted into breast milk. Because the effects on a nursing infant are not known, consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

Overdose
If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include cold and clammy skin, low body temperature, slowed breathing, slowed heartbeat, drowsiness, dizziness, lightheadedness, deep sleep, loss of consciousness, or seizures.

Notes
Do not share Tramadol with others.

Missed Dose
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered; do not take it if it is near the time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to catch up.

Storage
Store Tramadol at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) away from heat and light. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep this and all medications out of the reach of children.

Tretinioin

Uses
Tretinioin (Generic RetinA) is a medication used to treat acne, reduce the formation of pimples, and promote quick healing of pimples. Tretinioin or RetinA has been proven to reduce the severity of acne vulgaris in affected patients. When applied topically to the scalp, Tretinioin can induce hair regrowth and significantly augment the activity of Rogaine, possibly through the increased absorption of Rogaine through the scalp by an alteration of the stratum corneum (superficial layer) barrier.

How to use
Read carefully the patient instructions available with the product. Apply a thin layer to affected areas at bedtime. Use a gauze pad or cotton swab to apply the liquid. Wash your hands immediately after use. Using this medication more frequently or in excessive amounts does not improve the results, but may increase side effects. Avoid applying near the eyes, mouth, or open cuts since this medication can irritate sensitive skin. Acne may appear to worsen when the medication is first used; continue therapy. It may take three to six weeks before the full benefits of this medication are seen.

Precautions
Tretinioin (Generic RetinA) can increase sensitivity to sunlight, windi, and cold. Avoid prolonged exposure to the sun and sunlamps. Wear protective clothing and use an effective sunscreen. This medication should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed. It is not known if Generic RetinA (Tretinioin) is detected in breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding. Do not wash face excessively. Use mild soap when washing your face. Abrasive soaps, cleansers, medicated creams or lotions can increase skin irritation. Use other acne preparations with caution while using Generic RetinA (Tretinioin).

Side Effects
Immediately after applying, the skin may feel warm or mild stinging or redness may occur. Some peeling of the skin may occur. These effects should subside as your skin adjusts to the medication. If they persist or become bothersome, stop the medication. This medicine may also increase sun sensitivity.

Storage
Store Tretinioin at room temperature away from moisture and heat.

Triphasil

Uses
Triphasil is used to prevent pregnancy or to regulate your menstrual cycle. Certain brands of birth control pills may be used for treating acne or as a "morning after" pill for emergency contraception. Consult your doctor or pharmacist. Use of Triphasil does not protect you or your partner against sexually transmitted diseases (e.g., HIV, gonorrhea).

How To Use
Take Triphasil with food or immediately after a meal to prevent stomach upset. Try to take Triphasil at the same time each day. This may help you to remember to take it. Learn proper use of your particular brand of medication. Follow your dosing schedule carefully. Be sure to ask your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions. Use a supplemental form of birth control during the first week of taking Triphasil since it takes a while to be effective. Follow your doctor's directions exactly if Triphasil is being used as a "morning after" pill.

Side Effects
Triphasil may cause dizziness, headache, lightheadedness, stomach upset, bloating, or nausea. If these effects persist or worsen, contact your doctor. Notify your doctor if you experience: severe depression, groin or calf pain, sudden severe headache, chest pain, shortness of breath, lumps in the breast, weakness or tingling in the arms or legs, yellowing of the eyes or skin. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Precautions
Before you take Triphasil, tell your doctor your entire medical history, including family medical history, especially: asthma, high blood pressure, kidney disease, liver heart disease, stroke, history of jaundice (yellowing skin/eyes) or high blood pressure during pregnancy, excessive weight gain or fluid retention during menstrual cycle, blood clots, heart attack, seizures, migraine headaches, breast cancer, high blood level of cholesterol or lipids (fats), diabetes, depression. Depending on strength, Triphasil may cause a patchy, darkening of the skin on the face (melasma). Higher strengths are more likely to cause melasma. Sunlight may intensify this darkening and you may need to avoid prolonged sun exposure and sunlamps. Consult your doctor regarding use of sunscreens and protective clothing. It may take a long time for you to become pregnant after you stop taking birth control pills. Consult your doctor. Do not smoke cigarettes. Birth-control pills slightly increase your risk of strokes, blood clots, high blood pressure, heart attacks, gallbladder disease, vision problems, and liver tumors. Cigarette smoking (especially 15 or more cigarettes daily) and age (women older than 35/smokers or 40/nonsmokers years of age) further increase the risk of stroke, blood clots, high blood pressure and heart attacks. Ask your pharmacist or doctor for a copy of the patient labeling which explains these risks in more detail. Consult your doctor for any questions, including possible use in nonsmokers over 40 years of age. If you are near-sighted or wear contact lenses, you may develop vision problems. Also, your tolerance of the lenses may decrease. Contact your eye doctor if these problems occur. Before having surgery, including dental surgery, tell the doctor that you take birth control pills. Triphasil must not be used during pregnancy. If you become pregnant or think you may be pregnant, inform your doctor immediately. Triphasil passes into breast milk. This may affect milk production and may have harmful effects on a nursing infant. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

Drug Interactions
Tell your doctor what prescription and nonprescription drugs you are taking. Drugs that may decrease the effectiveness of the pill include: griseofulvin, many antibiotics (e.g., penicillins, macrolides, tetracyclines, sulfas, cephalosporins), chloramphenicol, many seizure medications (e.g., phenytoin, barbiturates, primidone, carbamazepine), dapsone, rifamycins (e.g., rifampin), modafinil, nevirapine, nelfinavir, ritonavir, St John's wort, troglitazone. Ask your doctor if you should use additional birth control methods while taking any of the drugs mentioned above while taking birth control pills. Also tell your doctor if you use: thyroid hormone drugs, certain benzodiazepines (e.g., diazepam, chlordiazepoxide), prednisone-like drugs, certain antidepressants (e.g., tricyclics), beta-blockers (e.g., metoprolol), "blood thinners" (anticoagulants such as warfarin), insulin. This product can affect the results of certain lab tests (e.g., thyroid). Inform all laboratory personnel that you use Triphasil. Birth control pills may significantly intensify the effects of alcohol. Consult your doctor or pharmacist about this. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.

Notes
Do not allow anyone else to take Triphasil. Keep all appointments with your doctor and the laboratory. You should have a complete physical examination, including blood pressure measurements, breast and pelvic examinations, and a PAP test (for vaginal cancer), at least once a year. Follow your doctor's instructions for examining your own breasts, and report any lumps immediately. A manufacturer's fact sheet about Triphasil should be dispensed with each prescription. Read the information carefully. Ask your doctor or pharmacist any questions you may have.

Missed Dose
Missed dose advice differs and depends on the brand used, and the number of doses missed. Refer to the product package information for advice on missed doses. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions.

Precautions
Before taking bupropion tell your doctor if you have a history of seizures, head injury, brain tumor; heart, liver or kidney disease, an eating disorder or any mental conditions, diabetes, if you have any allergies, including drug allergies or if you intend to quit smoking. Because of the possibility Wellbutrin SR will make you dizzy and affect coordination, do not drive or operate machinery until you get used to the drug's effects. Limit or avoid consumption of alcoholic beverages; alcohol can increase your risk of seizures. Chronic alcohol users who suddenly stop the intake of alcohol while taking bupropion may increase the risk of having seizures. Suddenly stopping certain tranquilizers (e.g., diazepam, chlordiazepoxide) is not recommended because doing so may increase the risk of having seizures. Elderly patients may be more sensitive to the effects of Wellbutrin. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant before taking Wellbutrin SR. Wellbutrin SR is excreted into breast milk. Because of the potential risk to the infant, breast-feeding while using Wellbutrin SR is not recommended. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

Xenical

Uses
Xenical is used with a reduced-calorie diet to help significantly overweight persons lose weight. It also helps to prevent regaining weight previously lost. Orlistat works by blocking some of the fat normally digested by the intestine.

How To Use
Take Xenical by mouth, generally three times daily during (or up to one hour after) each main meal that contains fat. Your daily intake of fat, protein and carbohydrate should be evenly spread over three main meals. If a meal is occasionally missed or contains no fat, skip that dose of the medication. Because Xenical can interfere with absorption of fat-soluble vitamins (e.g., A,D,E,K), a daily multivitamin supplement containing these nutrients is recommended. Take the multivitamin at least 2 hours before or 2 hours after Xenical (e.g., at bedtime). The effects of Xenical may begin as soon as 1-2 days after treatment begins; noticeable weight loss will take longer.

Side Effects
Fatty/oily stool, oily spotting, intestinal gas with discharge, bowel movement urgency, poor bowel control, or headaches may occur. If these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor promptly. Intestinal side effects (e.g., oily stool) may increase in intensity if you exceed your daily dietary fat allowance. Tell your doctor immediately if you have any of these unlikely but serious side effects: swelling of the feet or ankles. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Precautions
Tell your doctor your medical history, including: allergies, digestive disorders (malabsorption or cholestasis), low thyroid function (hypothyroidism), other metabolism problems (e.g., oxalate kidney stones, hyperoxaluria). Xenical should not be used if you have anorexia nervosa or bulemia-type eating disorders. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant before using Xenical. The manufacturer does not recommend use of Xenical during pregnancy. It is not known whether Xenical is excreted into breast milk. Because of the potential risk to the infant, breast-feeding while using Xenical is not recommended. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of the medicine you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Your doctor or health care provider will take a medical and family history and examine you before prescribing Yasmin. The physical exam may be postponed to another time if you request it and your doctor believes that it is good medical practice to delay it. Use a backup method of birth control (eg, condoms, spermicide)until you speak with your health care provider. Yasmin may cause spotting or breakthrough bleeding, or nausea, especially the first few months of treatment. If it continues past the second month, contact your doctor. Zovirax

Uses
Zovirax is used to treat herpes infections of the skin, mouth, mucous membranes, genital herpes, herpes zoster (shingles), and chickenpox in some individuals. Zovirax does not cure herpes, but relieves the pain and may make the infection clear faster.

How To Use
Begin taking Zovirax as soon as symptoms appear. Take Zovirax as directed. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions. Try to take the medication at evenly spaced intervals throughout the day and night. This will ensure a constant blood level of the medication and is most effective.

Side Effects
Zovirax may cause stomach upset, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, dizziness or weakness. These effects should disappear in a few days as your body adjusts to the medication. If they persist or become worse, inform your doctor. Notify your doctor if you experience: numbness or tingling of the hands or feet, leg pain, sore throat, skin rash, change in the amount of urine. An allergic reaction to Zovirax is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Precautions
Zovirax should be used cautiously during pregnancy only if clearly needed. It is not known if Zovirax appears in breast milk. Consult with your doctor before breast-feeding.

Overdose
If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include sluggishness, change in amount of urine, loss of consciousness, or seizures.

Zyban

Zyban is used to help you quit smoking.

Swallow Zyban whole. Do not crush or chew them or the sustained activity of the drug will be destroyed and the chances of side effects occurring may be increased. Take as directed, usually twice daily for 7 to 12 weeks. Do not take more or less medication than prescribed. Since Zyban can cause sleeplessness at first, it is best not to take near bedtime. It is advised to continue smoking for the first week after starting Zyban, until it reaches higher levels in your blood. Do not smoke if using any nicotine products with Zyban. Too much nicotine can cause serious side effects. Do not stop taking Zyban without notifying your doctor.

Precautions
Tell your doctor your medical history, especially of: seizures, head injury, brain tumor, heart disease, liver problems, kidney problems, eating disorder, any mental conditions, diabetes, allergies (especially drug allergies). Because of the possibility Zyban will make you dizzy and affect coordination, do not drive or operate machinery until you get used to the drug's effects. Elderly patients may be more sensitive to the effects of Zyban. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant before taking Zyban. Zyban is excreted into breast milk. Because of the potential risk to the infant, breast-feeding while using Zyban is not recommended. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

A certain product used to help quit smoking contains bupropion. Do not take that product while using this one.

Overdose
If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include blurred vision, lightheadedness, confusion, nausea, and seizures.
